Chemical Peels
What are they?
These are medical grade chemical peels, which can exfoliates your skin on deeper level than topical exfoliation. Eventually, superficial skin layers will peel off and allow for new regenerated skin that appears less wrinkled and feels smoother. Chemical peels can range in strength hence its depth of penetration from superficial like Salicylate to stronger peels like TCA which results in deeper exfoliation.

Side effects

Depending on the chemical peel strength selected, they may cause stinging, redness, irritation and crusting. These side effects usually more pronounced with deeper peels like TCA.

What to expect
Consultation will help identify if your skin type is a candidate for this kind of treatment. Usually, fair skinned people are best suited for this type of treatment. Dark more ethnic skin type people are less suited for this type of procedure.

Superficial peels require 1-7 days to heal. Treated skin will initially be red and may scale. Moisturizer should be applied until the skin heals, followed by daily use of sunscreen. Makeup can usually be worn the next day.

Medium peels require 7-14 days to heal. Treated skin will initially be red and swollen. Swelling worsens for the first 48 hours. Eyelids may swell shut. Blisters may form and break. Skin crusts and peels off in 7-14 days. Moisturizer should be applied. Avoid all sun exposure until healing is complete. Makeup may be worn after 5-7 days.

Deep peels require 14-21 days to heal. Moisturizer is applied for the next 14 days. Avoid all sun exposure for 3-6 months. Makeup may be worn after 14 days. A follow-up appointment is usually necessary to monitor progress.
